Preparing for Advent

I have been wanting an advent calendar since Aubrey was born. I have looked and looked, and loved the ones at Pottery Barn, but I didn't want to spend that much. I decided I could make one very similar to the one in PB so I ordered some felt and got busy. This is what it became. About $20 worth of materials and 2 Saturdays watching football while working on it, and here is our Advent calendar. I am so pleased with how it turned out. It's about 3 feet by 3 feet, and now I have to figure out what to put in the pockets each day. If you have any suggestions, please leave me a comment! Advent begins tomorrow. It's hard to believe. I want to really teach my children that Christmas is not about the presents, Santa, trees, etc, but truly about Christ's arrival and the gift that God gave to the world with His birth. It is hard in this day and age, but maybe with traditions like the Advent calendar we will get there.
Now I'm on to ornaments and other Christmas crafts. I would show pics, but they are presents, so it will have to wait till later! We are going to get our tree today and get out all our decorations. I love it! It is so perfect that we are going to possibly have snow flurries tonight too. Just in time.
On another note, it was a great day in the Higgins house yesterday as the GaTech Yellow Jackets beat the UGA Bulldogs IN ATHENS! The Gators also beat the Noles in Tallahassee, so it was a perfect football day. Way to go teams!

So was the perfect football weekend. We were rooting for GT because we love Paul Johnson. He was the head coach for Navy and he did that program very well. Andy is a grad of the Naval Academy, so we love Navy football.

This Saturday is the big game for our Gators. I am so going to be watching that game. Going with a friend to a local hangout to go watch it. So cannot wait to see the Gators whoop some Tide bootie. They have played so hard, they deserve to be in the title game for sure!!!

I love that cute advent calendar girl. Are you coming over to the Nook? I would love to see you there. Come hang out with me.
